Old Ellsworth Brewing Company began as a dream shared by Navy veteran Brian McKean and his brother-in-law, Ryan Bostrom. Both had a passion for home brewing, which they developed over summers in Alaska and winters in Arizona.
When they noticed Queen Creek had no local breweries despite a strong beer-loving community, they decided to open their own. With the support of Brian’s family and the town’s Economic Development Commission, they launched Old Ellsworth Brewing Company in 2017, right in the heart of Queen Creek.
Where History Meets Craft Beer
The brewery’s name honors the Ellsworth family, early business pioneers in Queen Creek, tying the brewery to the area’s rich agricultural history. Located at 22005 South Ellsworth Road, this spot is easy to find and perfect for locals and visitors looking to enjoy craft beer and good food in a relaxed setting.
A Wide Range of Beers with Local Flavor
Old Ellsworth Brewing Company offers nearly 20 beers on tap, including classic styles like lagers and hefeweizens, as well as more adventurous brews. Their award-winning IPA is a favorite among regulars. What makes their beers special is the use of local ingredients — grains from nearby farms, olives from the Queen Creek Olive Mill, and peaches from Schnepf Farms — giving each beer a unique taste that reflects Arizona’s flavors.
Scratch Kitchen Serving Elevated Comfort Food
The food here is made fresh daily in their scratch kitchen, led by chef Robert Hudson. The menu goes beyond typical bar snacks, featuring gourmet burgers, Cajun pasta, Nashville Hot Chicken, and creative dishes like Philly cheesesteak egg rolls. One popular choice is the build-your-own poutine, a dish that lets you customize toppings, meats, and sauces over crispy fries or tots. The food pairs perfectly with their beers, making it a great spot for lunch, dinner, or just a casual bite with friends.
A Place That Supports the Community
Old Ellsworth Brewing Company is deeply involved in the local community. They have partnered with groups like the Girl Scouts of Arizona and the Arizona Farm Bureau, creating special beers and hosting events to support these organizations. For example, they brewed a beer called Cien to celebrate the Arizona Farm Bureau’s 100th anniversary. They also organized the Saving Strong Beer Festival in 2021, which helped local brewers recover after the pandemic’s challenges.
Fun Events and a Welcoming Atmosphere
The brewery hosts a variety of events that bring people together. From yoga classes paired with beer to live music nights and plans for car shows, there is always something happening to keep the atmosphere lively and engaging. The interior features plenty of TVs, especially near the bar, making it a popular spot to watch sports games on Sundays.
What Visitors Say
Guests often praise the friendly staff, great food, and quality beers. The outdoor patio is a favorite for those who want to enjoy Arizona’s weather while sipping a cold brew. Popular dishes like the grilled chicken caprese and pulled pork sandwich receive high marks, and many visitors enjoy the unique drink options, including ciders and meads alongside the house beers.
